Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

I moved from Houston TX to Dallas TX. I didnt get a chance to physically look at any apartments, so I based my decision were I would I move on what I saw online. I got to the apartment at closing time they had me sign the 1st six pages of the lease and then gave me the keys to the place. When I went in to the apartment it was nothing that I expected; it was small, dingy and didnt look like none of the apartments advertise online. The leasing agent with the apartments came by to make sure everything was alright; I explain to her my concerns and she advised me if I needed a few days to look for another apartment I could and if I couldnt find another apartment that I would still be able to move into this one. I decided not to move in that night and stay at a friend's place. In the next two days I found another apartment but was unable to go back to the and advised them that I no longer wanted to move to there facility that same day. I did speak with some and let them know when I would be able to came and take care of everything. When I did speak wirh them all the previous agreements didnt even matter and I ended up owing the apartment $1470 for breaking the lease. Should I have to pay this amount?

Here's what you should do:

1. Don't pay the $1470. You didn't breach the contract, THEY did. They showed you one thing but sold you something else. They're liars and crooks.

2. Write up your experience, complete with dates and times, and the names (and addresses and phone numbers) of people you talked to. Do it now, before you forget.

3. Write these folks a polite letter (PAPER letter - no emails or phone messages - put a date on the letter, and keep a copy) and tell them what happened. Tell them you're not going to pay the $1470.
