Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Nutty Landlord
Hello,
I rent a home with my fiancee in Fort Worth. We moved in September of 2007 and since then the landlord has made it very difficult to pay our rent to her on time. Example: Not coming over when she says she is, not receiving the rent in the mail, not wanting to meet us at a proper time.
We are dealing with the landlords daughter, which is the ''agent''. The landlord, mom, said she will accept the rent in the mail. She has received it in the past since we started to send it overnight with delivery confirmation. We've never been late, the only time we have been late is because she refused to pick the mail up at the post office and it was returned. Even then, we paid the extra fees since the daughter was too lazy to pick up. This was done in October.
Since then, the agent, calls us at odd times during the evening, 10 and 11 at night saying we are ''bulls***'' and she is done doing us favors by us having mail the rent, even with overnight and delivery signature and all.
For the past two months, we've sucked it up and drove 50 miles to Dallas at 9 at night to hand here a grand in the middle of her dark neighborhood, she alos writes an incorrect reciept EVERY TIME. What can we do?

Re: Nutty Landlord
If you encountered no problems with landlord mom in the past, why continue to deal with the agent daughter? Do you have a contractual obligation to pay the rent to the daughter? If not, pay directly to mom, with signature required. You are under no obligation to deliver rent in the middle of the night.
You might also want to start looking for a new place to live when this lease is over.
