Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Overextended welcome

Me and my fiancee reluctantly agreed almost a year ago to let her father, wife, and two kids move in with into our large 1 bedroom apt. The deal was the bedroom was ours, the living/dining room was theres, and they would also have to pay half the bills. They never payed but one months rent after about a year of living with us, and now he continues to threaten me with violence when I tell him he must leave. Do I have any option here on getting them out of our apartment? They have been receiving mail at our apartment, they have lived there for about 9 months now. I do not want my wife and my newborn daughter exposed to a man who deals drugs out of my house and who threatens to kill me when I tell him the rules of the house and if he can't follow them he must leave. They are not on our lease. To be honest I don't want to go through the legal process, I would prefer to have a cop escort them out of the apartment. I also don't want to tell the cops the drugs they deal out of my house, but I need them out.

Re: Overextended welcome

Honestly, I understand your desires, but don't think you can have what you want.

You will either have to formally evict them, or report the threats/and/or drugs to law enforcement.

Am guessing you cannot afford a lawyer. Send him letter to leave via CM RRR. You can get the details from the Attorney General website. I would guess that if he has threatened you before, he will again.

My advice is to protect your family, call the cops, report the threats to your life, and get them out. Simultaneously, get a protective order from the DA.

Alternatively, move your wife and daughter out of there. Just move.
