Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

help

my problem is actually pretty complicated in cliff notes version i got some jetskis from my former neighbors/friends and now their former landlord is trying to take them from me because the former tenents (my friend) still owe them some money supposedly . The former landlord is threating to call the cops on me . I just wanted to know if i can get into any trouble

If your friends gave the jetski to you, you are fine. A landlord, it is in writing in the lease, has a landlord's lien on the tenant's non-exempt property for rent owed. It does not give him the right, however, to go out and retrieve property from other people. Don't worry about the threat to call the cops, they probably won't get involved and will just say it is a civil matter. If your friends gave it to you, and will verify that and back you up, the property is yours.
