Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
renters insurance
At my apartment complex we recently recieved a notice of change in terms if tenacy. It states that all residents will be required to carry renters insurance minimum $25,000 liability coverage as of October 1.
I agree having renters insurance is a good idea but I am having trouble finding a job and this is an expense I can not afford at this time.
I asked the office employees about it and they said that it is a new law in texas for all renters.
Is this true and / or can they make it mandatory to have this insurance?
Thank - you

Re: renters insurance
I am not aware of such a law. Ask them for a copy of the law. Read your current lease. Does it give the landlord the right to make unilateral changes in the lease with 30 days notice?
