Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
I have a roommate at my apartment. I have already moved out of that apartment. I'm still paying the rent to this day. My roommate has already found a roommate, but I don't think the new roommate will accept responsibility for the lease in my stead. How do I get out of that lease?

Review your lease and see what it says about roommates, subletting. and terminating the lease early. This should give you a good idea of what your options are.
If your lease has ended or you are on a month to month tenancy, you can simply inform the landlord (in writing) that you have moved out and will cease paying rent in 30 days. Your roommate has elected not to move out and the landlord is free to evict him or negoticate a new lease. Another option would be for you to evict the roommate and then terminate the month to month lease.
What ever you do, be sure to send copies to your roommate so he or she will know what is coming.
