Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Security

I have an apt with an attached garage. I must enter my apt. through my garage. Within 3 months that I have lived here, I have come home to find my garage door opened six times. I called the police once because it was night and I was afraid to go in. Each time I contact the apt. office to tell them about it. The first few times they would reset my garage door opener. Now they don't even return my calls when it happens. I am afraid to enter my apt especially at night (woman who lives alone) not knowing if someone is inside my apt, I've been robbed or what? Isn't the apt. landlord supposed to provide me with a safe, secure apt?

Re: Security

Send the apartments a letter CMRRR detailing the past incidents and circumstances. Explain that the security issue makes the apartment uninhabitable for the purposes it was leased. (Read the landlord tenant primer provided at the Texas Attorney General Website). Read your lease for further details. Give them a reasonable time to make acceptable repair. You may want to pay an attorney to draft the letter on your behalf. Good luck. TCL
