Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Security deposits
Our old apartment complex sent us an itemized bill for alleged damages 2 months after we moved out and only after I inquired about our pet/security deposit. Is it legal for them to send us a bill after 30 days of moving out.

Re: Security deposits
In general, a landlord must either refund the security deposit or send an accounting of how the deposit has been applied within thirty days after a tenant moves out. There is no such requirement, however, if the tenant moves out while still owing rent. And, the thirty days does not start running until the landlord has been given, in writing, the tenant's new address. (filling out forwarding information at post office does not count)
