Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

we spent 4 months in hell. The owner of the apartment complex wouldnt fix anything. sometimes he refused to acknowledge there WAS a problem. he said roaches are a part of life and everyone lives with roaches. we had mold analyized (he said it was dust) and found two types at toxic levels. we have pictures of everything, lots of them! we asked him if we could be let out of our lease and needless to say we did not come to a mutual agreement. in the mail saturday i recieved a statement from him showing we owe $1931.75 in 30 days or its going to collections. i paid $300 for a pet deposit $150 was nonrefundable but the owner's keeping the whole thing! $420.75 re-letting fee? i dont think i owe that slum lord one red cent! what do we do?

It is hard to discuss a lease situation without being able to review the contract.

However, I suggest you take the lease, pictures and letters to an attorney immediately.
