Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Stop payment on deposit refund
Left rental property. Landlord refunded $1580.00 of $2000.00 deposit along with an explaination of the deductions. I sat on the check for a couple of weeks and did not cash it (dumb). I received a seperate check in the mail today for $800.00 with no information. I suspected somthing was up so I go cash the $1580.00 check today and find that they have put a stop to the check.
Can the landlord do this? What can I do?

Re: Stop payment on deposit refund
No. Your recovery option is in Small Claims Court, and the landlord could be found liable for triple damages.
