Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Less time paying less.

I have been living in my apartment complex for 12 years and I currently pay $635 per month. This week I learned that my neighbor (who has been living here for 12 months) is paying $535 and a friend who has been living here for 8 years also pays less money than me. They both have apartments with the same sq. footage than mine.

Is this legal?

Absolutely. Each lease is negotiated individually with each party. You certainly have a right to contact the landlord, and request that they renegotiate your current lease, or that your new lease be reduced. If you have been a solid tenant, they may well be willing to do so. They are under no obligation to do so, however.
