Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

I have been unemployed for 16 months and my unemployment ran out in May 2010. I have also exhausted my savings. I can not pay my rent for July. I went to the leasing office and spoke to the manager. I have lived in the same complex for 7 years. The manager said she could wait till the 15th and I was to keep in touch with her. This morning I was giving a notice to vacate. I went back to the office this morning and the manager told me if I don't pay the rent along with late fees by July 12th, She would start the eviction process. My question is how soon can they act and change the locks on my apartment and confiscate my personal belongings. Do I have any rights or what can I do?

If your rent is paid in full at the time of the eviction hearing, the judge will not order eviction. The Texas Attorney General has a website with a section on landlord/tenant law. It provides the timetable of events that can occur. Good luck.
