Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

xerox copy of legal forms

Hello, I'm a public librarian in Dallas, Texas. I just had a customer complain that the legal forms we had contained in a book had to be ripped out along the perferatted line to make a clean copy on the xerox machine. She claimed that any legal form that has a dark line in it (like from a xerox copy) makes the form invalid, unusable as a legally binding form. The form she wanted to make a copy of was a lease agreement. Is she correct in her judgement of xerox copied legal forms?

Re: xerox copy of legal forms

I have never heard of such a claim. If she is concerned, she can always retype the form on her own. If she is using the copy in violation of copyright law, that is a different issue, and depends upon her use of the copy.
