Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Texas
Someone gave me a dog because he didn't want her anymore. I cared for the dog for about a year and had to move out of state. I gave the dog to a friend of a friend because she fell in love with her. Now the original owner wants her back and is sending threats and says that he is going to sue me because he thinks we had a verbal contract saying I was going to keep the dog or send her back to him. I do not want to give him the information to the people that have her because it is not his right to know since he gave me the dog. Can he sue me for this, or is he trying to scare me? He even showed up to my parents house trying to scare them in to giving him information.

Write a letter to the "original owner" (paper letter - no "texts" or emails) telling him that he gave you the dog, and it was yours, and you have now given it away. Tell him he can't have the dog back, no matter what. Tell him to leave you alone and leave your family alone, and if he doesn't, you'll contact the police.
And then stick to your guns. He can sue you all he wants (there's no "screening panel" for lawsuits - I can sue anybody at any time), but he won't get anywhere.
