Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Texas
Gymnastics instructor
My 16 year-old son has been asked by local parents to start a gymnastics class. What do we need to do to protect against injury liabilities? Will having parents sign a ''I will not be held responsible for injuries'' form hold up if someone does get hurt? Do we need to purchase liability insurance? Our community is small and he only plans to have a small number of students. What do you think?
Signed,
A Concerned Mom

Re: Gymnastics instructor
Insurance is always the first line of defense. One can reasonably anticipate injuries in activities such as you describe. Not having protection puts your home at risk. Speak with your insurance agent and a lawyer. Releases such as you describe are not legally effective.
