Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Texas

Hiring and Firing

This evening when I found out about my daughter being fired I found myself in need to find answers. She started working at Sophia's in the Killeen Mall (Texas) on Monday 22nd of November. She is a straight A student and I felt she could handle a part time job. She was hired by the general manager on a two week trial period at which time she would be allowed to continue or let go. My problem is I went to Sophia's to talk to the General Manager Crystal Gonzales and my first impression was a bad one. I ask why my daughter was fired her response was she had not met the required sales quota in the two weeks she had been working there. I stated you hired her 4 days ago. At which point her face went blank and she stated she needed to check the time cards. One of the assistant manager stated ''What do you want us to do rehire her?'' By this time I decided I needed to leave. What actions can I take to prevent this company from causing problems with kids who truly want to have a good work experience. Secondly they fail to pay her for the hours she worked, her check was for 21 hours she had worked 26 hours. I truly find it hard to believe that any manager can hire and fire a person within 26 hours of work and believe it is ethical.

Re: Hiring and Firing

Your claim is for wages paid; the business didn't need a reason to fire your daught. it has nothing to do with the sort of person she is. You can file a claim for failure to pay wages with your state employment office. They should have forms to fill out and a written proceudre on how to claim wages for which she should have been paid.
