Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Texas

Been Scammed

I was part of a co-author of a book project with a man in Texas. I paid him for the 500 books that were supposed to be out in May 2003. I have had numerous emails and phone messages to him about the receiving of the book to fulfill pre-orders. Today I received an email wanting more money and stating he was filing bankruptcy. The only way was to give more money or lose it all. What is my recourse to recover my money? Since it is over State lines is this a federal case of fraud? (The credit card company is working on their end to recover the money for merchandise never received.) PLEASE HELP!!!
