Legal Question in Mediation in Texas

Civil Litigation ?

I really need help here. Have no clue where to start.

Over the course of several years, two family members borrowed about $85,000 on my credit cards and several thousands from my personal funds. The loans were paid to them either by check or wire transfers. We lived together in Texas at the time.

Several months ago I retired and moved from Texas to Florida. They still reside in Texas. Up until this past September, they made the payments each month on the credit cards. No problem. Two months after I moved to Florida, they stopped paying.

One of the family members will testify to this. The other one holds the purse strings and is the one that refuses to pay on their debt.

We had a verbal contract only, along with the solemn promise that they could and would pay off their debt. I have been making the payments so as to keep my credit in good standing, but it is eating my lunch.

My questions are:

1. Do I have any legal standing?

2. What kind of lawyer do I look for?

3. Do I hire a lawyer in Florida or Texas or both?

4. How do I go about hiring a good lawyer?

As you can tell, I am not very savvy when it comes to legal matters. Help!

You should retain a Texas attorney as soon as possible.

Since you are not yet a resident of Florida, you will need to retain an attorney in Texas. After six months living in Florida and becoming a resident you can litigate the matter here.
