Legal Question in Military Law in Texas
animal cruelity
my daughter was taking her finacee back to a base (he is in the military, she is not). he began to feel ill.. they had their 2 dogs with them, in a kennel. she had to take him to the E.R. when they got on base. with no place to leave the dogs they left them in the car. but she checked on them often. the dogs were discovered and taken from the locked car (but had windows slightly opened). what kind of trouble are they looking at?

Re: animal cruelity
You may want to check with the Security Police on base to see who took the animals. Usually, if the military police remove animals they leave you a written notice and a search authorization. A search authorization (or SA for short) is the same as a civilian search warrant, but it is issued by a Military Magistrate. If these dogs were removed from your car and it was not done by base police, someone may have stolen the dogs from you. If your dogs were seized by the police, and it was done without a SA, they you may be able to file a claim for compensation against base authorities for invasion of privacy.
Re: animal cruelity
This is not really a question of military law -there is no violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice from the facts you describe. Ther may be a local base regulation or state law adopted by the base which prohibits leaving animals in a parked vehicle - if so the penalty is probably minor.
