Legal Question in Military Law in Texas

Joining the armed forces as a convicted felon

I am a convicted felon living in the state of Texas and I would desperately like to join the armed forces of the US, but as I have four years left of six-year probation, I do not have any clue as to whether or not I may be able to do so at this time. Would it be possible to forego at least some length of my probation if I were to request sponsorship to join? Maybe the judge would grant me leeway if I made it clear I intend to join immediately.

Re: Joining the armed forces as a convicted felon

Depending upon what the actual charge(s) were for in your felony conviction, you may be eligible to join the armed forces. You need to contact a military recruiter to see if there is a waiver applicable for you to join. If the recruiter indicates that you can join, then you will need some form of written documentation that states you are entering the armed forces. These documents will need to be produced to the court and it will ultimately be up to the court to allow you the early termination of probation.
