Legal Question in Military Law in Texas
Son in Navy for 7 Months
My son graduated from boot camp Aug 31, 2007 was picked to serve in the Honor Guard, hurt his back and was put on hold in Washington doing odd jobs, felt like he was nothing and that the Navy was nothing we had told him it would be. He was very unhappy and was around all those who were on hold or waiting for A-School same as him. He had 4 days off and decided to come home and see his family. We thought he had permission, he was not suppose to leave. He has been given a General Discharge, he is still in Washington so I don't know yet what his RE code will be. He was scheduled for his A-School with the Seabees, we are devistated, he is a good builder and an honorable Sailor, his Master Chief said he would help him as did two other Petty Officers, and his recruiter wants him to come and see him as soon as he gets back to Texas. With these Officers and his recruiter's help is there any chance he can reenter the Navy? His recruiter said he may have to sit out for 6 months and would not have to repeat boot camp. Recruiter said if he has an RE4 it will be very difficult to get back in. Is there anything else he should do before he leaves Washington that could help him be able to reenter??

Re: Son in Navy for 7 Months
From what you have stated, there does not appear to be anything that your son can do to ensure his potential for re-entry. The biggest item that will either allow or disallow his re-entry into the military is the "RE" code. Typically, a Gereral characterization will be accompanied by a RE code that allows for re-entry into the military.
