Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

What can be done when an accident occurs on public school property?

I tripped over a non standard sized curb at a High school in a district other than where my children attend school, at a UIL competition. I was chaparoning our band. The curb is a hazard and many people (who will say so) have tripped there. I fell to the asphalt and broke my nose and had many other facial injuries and hurt my knee--mine is the worst injury we know of from the 6 years we have been attending this event. EMS personnel onsite said I must go to ER and I did. Was told in ER needed to see ENT dr which I did . We have all bills saved, pictures of me, and of the curb to document this accident. When contacting school district to ask for out of pocket reinbursement of monies we were told they had NO funds for this type thing.

What are my legal rights here?

Re: What can be done when an accident occurs on public school property?

you have none. under the texas tort claims act passed by our representatives in austin, schools and school districts are immune from all negligent claims unless the incident arises from an automobile collision. i am sorry to hear about your injury but you and many other people have been rendered remedyless in this type of cases as well as others. it is very important that as we approach election day that you consider voting for those candidates that will try to protect and restore victim's rights. bill featherston
