Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

I was approached by a door to door salesman on Tuesday trying to sell me an all purpose cleaner. I explained to the saleswomen that we just got back from a funeral and that it wasn't a good time. I told her to come back in a couple of days. At this point, the woman became very rude and aggressive and began swearing at me. I ordered her to leave my property and subsequently called 911. My wife heard me ordering her off the property and came outside to see what was going on. As soon as my wife went outside, the saleswoman began cursing at my wife and sprayed some chemicals on my wife's arm. The chemicals caused a rash and severe itching. The saleswoman was eventually arrested for assaulting the police and the whole 9 yards. My question is this, I researched the companies website and it states that the sales reps are independent contractors. Can the company still be held liable for this ladies assault?

If your wife has medical expenses, then she can receive reimbursement through the prosecution.
