I was in an auto accident which I was at fault. What is my liabiltiy beyond my insurance coverage?

In Texas, what if any assets are protected in event of a lawsuit?

If your insurance policy is insufficient to pay the damages you've caused to the other person(s), then you will have to pay the difference.

Your liability is the total amount of the other parties' losses (including property damage. past and future medical bills, lost income, pain & suffering, etc.) minus the amount your insurance pays for. Hopefully your insurer will be able to negotiate a settlement within your policy limits.
