Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

changing lawyers

I retained a lawyer who was a ''no win no fee'' but he had so many workers/case workers, etc. that I never spoke to the same person and most of the time they iddn't return my calls or sufficiently answer my questions. My case was going nowhere so I fired him and hired another lawyer. Now my former lawyer is trying to charge me for his paperwork, calls, and consultation. Can he do that? Is there a limit? What are MY rights?

If it was a Tex work comp case, his fees had to be approved and you were given notice so you had 15 days after getting notice to object. The new lawyer could negotiate IF you had good reason to fire the first..But.

Re: changing lawyers

Based on what you have written, you should ask your new attorney this question. It also depends upon what type of case you are dealing with. There are many potential avenues to proceed down and some examples are: (i) the contract terms, (ii) what amount of work the prior attorney did, (iii) how much the case expenses are to the date of you releasing the prior attorney, etc. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange for a consultation.
