Is it the law for your attorney to pay your medical bills out of your settlement, before you get any of it?

Yes and No. It depends on the type of bill, for example hospitals will file liens which have to be paid, medicare will need to be reimbursed, doctors with whom your lawyer has given a letter of protection will need to be repaid, and any child support liens will need to be paid back. Otherwise, it's probably your choice on whether you want to pay them back or have your lawyer pay them back.
