Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas
Need legal advice on car accident
I had a car accident. The other party is at fault. My car was totaled and I am currently going to a chiropractor. Her insurance company want to settle without me going to a lawyer. In the accident I have whiplash, severe neck and back pain, and on my left hand thumb and indexg finger up to my wrist is number. What should I consider a reasonable amount or should I obtain a lawyer now

I know I will probably sound biased because I do this for a living, but after having practiced personal injury litigation exclusively for over 25 years I can tell you that, almost without exception, a good personal injury lawyer (and I don't mean a "TV Lawyer") can get you more compensation--even after deducting his fee--than you could get by yourself. Personal injury cases are complex, and insurance companies are masters at cheating you. Trying to handle your own case is a lot like trying to perform home brain surgery: you can do it if you want to, but it's not such a great idea. Do yourself a favor: hire a lawyer.

Why do you suppose the insurance company wants you to settle without consulting a lawyer? The insurance companies know that you will likely mess up your case as time progresses and therefore they won't have to pay you as much on your claim. They are banking on this, and are likely going to lowball you at the end of the claim process. Personal injury lawyers will visit with you about your case for free and with no obligation (my office included). I suggest you interview a few lawyers (either by phone, or preferably in person) to see which office you are most comfortable dealing with.
