Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

Getting Married

I am currently involved in a Personal Injury suit for something that happened almost 2 years ago. I am getting married soon but the suit is still being worked out. If I get married before it is settled is there any way my spouse can be brought into it? Liability or anything else.

Re: Getting Married

Very, very unlikely, unless perhaps you were going together when the accident happened. He/she might be a witness to something, but liability is not likely at all.

Re: Getting Married

I can't tell whether you are making a claim for injuries or being sued. If you are making a claim, then just the fact of marriage would not matter unless you have a claim for future lost earnings. Then your wife could possibly claim a portion of your judgment or settlement earmarked for future earnings. If you are being sued and your wife has assets which she were to mix or share with you (such as putting your name on a deed to property), then those assets might be subject to being seized by a judgment creditor. If you have substantial exposure to an adverse judgment, you should consider meeting with an attorney to discuss matters in more detail.
