Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas
Saved from the Fire
I was traveling on a high utility vehicle (HOV) lane when I was hit from behind by an SUV which--just previously---immediately caught on fire as it was rear-ended by a Metro bus. I watched it all in the rear view mirror. Seconds later, after meeting angels that literally kept pushing me on just enough to keep me safe, I watched a blaze from a distance and it was then I felt her dying. Today I get this image often. I'm most concerned about getting my car fixed, and any medical or psychological treatments I may need without any undue cost to me. I have no insurance until I teach this fall. What I want to know is who am I supposed to go to for getting my car repaired? Metro's insurance, the driver's insurance or my insurance? I need this done asap to travel for my job.
PS Do I need a lawyer? Why can't I just go to Metro's insurance company (AIG) and get them to pay me damages? Or is it that since I feel need to see a pshrink I need a lawyer to get this money reimbursed? I am so confused, and I can't think straight since I watched a 9 year-old burn to death, instead of me, and I need help...........please.

Let me begin this email by telling you that I am sorry to hear about your loss. As for what you should do, you should retain counsel immediately before speaking with the insurance company. I would have to know substantially more information before I can tell you about your rights. Please feel free to call me or any other attorney with whom you feel comfortable.
