Wrongful death

What is a typical sentence in a wrongful death suit? Is there jail time or a fine?

Re: Wrongful death

The Texas Penal Code provides the punishment guidelines for criminal offenses, which includes possible confinement and fines. If you are talking about a civil case, then the plaintiff is entitled to recover money damages.

Re: Wrongful death

If it's a wrongful death suit, then typically, it is a suit between the representative of an estate and the person who caused the death. That suit can only be for money damages. If there was a criminal act, that would be a separate matter, between the State of Texas (handled by a prosecutor) and the person who caused the death. Typically, this case isn't called "wrongful death" though, it would be something akin to "vehicular manslaughter" etc. The remedies for the criminal case include imprisonment, fines, and probation. Feel free to call me if you want to discuss this in detail.
