Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas
I was given 2 expensive trombones from my father as gifts, one was in place of a spring band trip and one was for my high school graduation. He is now mad at me and is going to report these horns stolen. He states he has the bill of sale and maintains ownership and I can not take them across state lines to attend college. He will report stolen itmes. Is this legal? are not these mine, they were gifts. there were no contracts as to what I would do with these BUT I am attending college on a music scholarship and need these horns to further my education.

What evidence do you have that these were gifts? Birthday cards that say "Congratulations, I am giving you two trombones"? Are there people who saw him give them to you? Saw you open the gifts? Heard him say, "Here, son, these are for you"?
Just between you and me, I can't imagine any police department getting interested in this kind of situation; they'd probably tell Dad that they refuse to get involved.
If Dad tries to report the T-Bones as stolen, the police will probably advise your father that it is a "civil" matter - at least that is what they would do in Dallas. Hopefully you and Dad can work things out and can resolve the underlying problem. Life is short and I wish MY dad was still alive so I could tell him how sorry I was for the things I said to him when I was young. :)
