Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

name addition to property title due to marriage

How do I change my property title (deed). I want to add my husband as an owner to my personal property (house). What form do I use for this?

It depends. First, if the property is mortgaged, you need to check with the mortgage company to see if the there is a 'due on sale' clause, or some other restriction on transfer. Assuming there is nothing preventing you from transferring a partial interest in the house, you would need a deed to transfer a fractional interest.

Well, the State Bar of Texas decided to place a warranty deed online and if you want a fool for a client, be your own lawyer and do it yourself, but then you will have nobody but yourself to blame. Take note of the warnings posted by previous writers in answer to your question.

Find a lawyer in your town to handle this matter for you, and if you can't find one in town, go to Austin.

By the way, congratulations on the marriage.
