Back taxes on property
We have found a piece of property that is abandoned, there is some back taxes owed on it. Can we pay the back taxes and legally own the property?

Re: Back taxes on property
It is possible under the doctrine of adverse possession if you have proof of your non-permissive use which is actual, open, notorious, exclusive, and adverse for a period of 10 years or more. However, to provide clear title upon the sale of the property you will need to obtain a declaratory judgment from the court that states that you are the owner of the property.
