Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas
Breach of rental agreement
I am renting a house with option to buy after cleaning up my credit. The A/C went out and when I called to have it fixed was told I had an illegal lease and to get out or sign a new lease. I decided to get out and now landlord says I will be in breach of contract. All I want is my deposit back so I can move. I just do not want to deal with these shady people anymore. What rights do I have in this?

Re: Breach of rental agreement
You can sue the landlord in small claims court to get your deposit back, but the JP can't decide the legality or illegality of your lease, so that may not work. Try the Texas Tenant's Union and maybe someone there can take a look at the papers and determine your rights. http://www.txtenants.org/tenants_rights.html
