Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Can a break a lease because...?

My roommate and I were in a physical altercation. I no longer want to be her roommate because of the tension and possible saftey factors involved. I have tried speaking to our apartment manager and she refuses to relocate me or allow me to break my lease without my roommates consent. Is this allowable? Is there any law that says that an individual can break her lease because she feels unsafe or she fears that another physical confrontation may occur?

Re: Can a break a lease because...?

Your apartment manager is not your babysitter. You both signed a lease which is a binding contract and you are both bound to it. Try and work it out with your roommate so that both of you tolerate the situation until your lease expires. However, if violence is an issue, as with abusive spouses, it becomes a criminal matter and if you fear for your safety call the police.
