Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas
Breaking a lease and security deposit
I moved in to an apartment on 8/13/03 and on 8/31/03 they stole my only vehicle from the apartments. I was told by the manager that she understood if I would have to move out. I was told by some of the neighbors that one of the apartments got broken into and they took everything. I am very afraid for my family's safety and I want to leave. We just paid the rent for this month and she told me she could not return it and that the deposit would be given to me when the aparment is rented. I need money to buy a new vehicle. Is there anything I can do? Do I have any rights?

Re: Breaking a lease and security deposit
The answers are...probably not, and probably not. You signed a lease agreement which is a binding contract. Your remedy would be small claims court (which you probably not win) or work it out with the landlord. Best of luck.
