Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

We are trying to build a house on a piece of land that will be given to us by my fiances father. His deed says that he owns the whole block, but the title company says that other people own lots within the block. He has a warranty deed, and in most of the owners cases both him and he others have been paying taxes on the land. We are trying to get a clear title but the title company says we can't because the land disappeared from the books for about ten years and was then resold, so that all of thepeople with deeds, including us are not the rightful owners even though these old owners haven't paid taxes on it. What, if anything can we donto get a clear title?

Get with the title company. You don't have the whole story. If there is a hole in the chain of title, then you need to figure out who the last titled owner was (before the hole) and get them to deed out. if they are unavailable, you can go to court and file a suit to quiet title, establishing yourself as the owner. It's a bit more complex, but that is the short version.
