buying property in someone else name

my sister and her husband purchased a house...,later in years they moved out of town ...so my mother decided to take over the house...and before my sister died she promised to deed the house to my mother...so after my mother died..i continue living in the house and paid it off...once the house was paid off my brother in law decided he wanted the house back and call me and told me i had to mo ve out ..because his son need somewhere to stay....after paying for this house all these years...at least 15 years...do he have the right to put me out without paying me for the upkeep of the house.

Absolutely not! If what you say is accurate, you have an equitable interest in the house. You have acquired title by adverse possession. Contact an attorney in your area so you can acquire legal title. You will do this by getting a declaratory judgment from a judge that "declares" you the true owner. It may cost you a couple of thousand in court costs and legal fees, but it is well worth it. Best of luck.
