Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas
I co-signed for my daughter on a lease. She was renting with a roommate. Each roommate had to fill out a separate application and have their own co-signer. The lease was only 7 mos, because they were finishing out (subletting) someone else's lease. The original lease is fromJan 1, 2010 to Aug. 13, 2010. Apparently the roommate was notified in Feb. that they had to sign another lease. My daughter didn't know anything about, nor I. This new lease takes them all the way through Aug of next year, 2011. When I asked how this could be and me still be listed as a co-signer when I was never informed, the leasing office said that when the roommate signed they were signing for everyone. How can a roommate sign for me...someone I do not even know? Is this legal? I only agreed to sign because it was just through this August.
1 Answer from Attorneys
do you have a copy of the lease she signed? do you have a copy of the "new lease"
I am assuming it being September that she did not move out on Aug 13?
