Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Forced country club fees

Ten years ago we bought a lot in a subdivision on the Lake Livingston. We thought we might retire there someday but now we have gone elsewhere. The subdivision, Westwood Shores, has instituted as of this January a $500 a year country club fee whether you want it or not. We don't even want the probperty but can't give it away, sell it, etc. Now they say because we haven't paid up to date we owe over $400. in late fees and the $350 in dues. We are on social security and cannot pay this. They are threatening legal action. What can we do?

Re: Forced country club fees

This is more complicated than it appears. Your documents would need to be examined to see if they have a right to impose dues. If you would like to fax or mail me a set, I will be glad to take a quick look and respond in more detail.
