Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Housing Retrictions

We purchased a house and found out there were restrictions after the fact. Can someone actually restrict us from putting a room in the garage inside our own house?

From the outside the house will wtill appear to have a garage door but we need an extra bedroom and would like to put on in the garage. Please help us...

Re: Housing Retrictions

I cannot, without reading the restrictions and perhaps doing some research, determine whether a prohibition on adding a bedroom to your garage is enforceable. However, by law, you should have been notified of the restrictions at or before closing of the purchase of your home. This notice is typically provided at the title company, and requires your signature. If you did not receive and sign such a notice, you may have rights against the seller. Check your file to see if the notice was in the stack of papers you signed at closing.
