Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

My husband purchased 1 acre of land in 1978, paying $5400.00 for the tract. After a title search was done he found there was an $80,000 lien on the 40 acre block that was sold to several buyers. Never able to prove it was his nor get a clear deed, he stopped paying taxes in 1988. Yesterday he was served papers by the county suing for back taxes in the amount of $5,610.28. He's been to the court house many times through the years trying to fix this thing but they always end of sending HIM the tax bill even though it's under another man's name. This is not a homestead. Can the county put a lien on our actual homestead or fine us in any way other than seizing the land in question?

Maybe and they could foreclose. You should have someone look at the specific parcels and see if can be straightened out.
