Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

lease termination due to transfer of property ownership

Our landlord recently sold the property at which I have a lease through December 31st, 2008. They have hinted that they may try to make us move out very soon. Does the new owner have the right to end our lease? What conditions must be met for them to be able to end our lease?

Re: lease termination due to transfer of property ownership

Your leasehold rights are superior to those rights of the new owners. They must honor the terms of the lease. If they try to evict, take your lease to the hearing and ask for any damages you incur as a result of an unlawful eviction. (Assuming you are not in breach of the terms of the lease.)
