Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Hi I live in Garland Texas and I have a little legal prob...Pretty much i was paying a mechanic to fix my car. My car was parked at his house, the mechanic was arrested about 20 days ago and i just now found out. But when they arrested him they also took my car and impounded it and labeled my car as found property and are making me pay $1000 to get it back not to mention the price goes up everyday and they if i dont get it by a cert-en amount of time there going to action it. I wanted to know if what there doing was right or if i should get a lawyer?

Whoever has your automobile (the police, the courts) has possession of it illegally. Send them a demand letter for the return of your car. Give them ten days. If they don't surrender it, sue them. You've done nothing wrong (I assume), and you don't have to pay $1000 to get something that belongs to you.
