Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

mineral rights in Walker County

A few years ago the heirs of my grandfather were contacted regarding the mineral rights retained on property in Walker County and the intention of drilling for Natural Gas. I was not contacted and have been unsuccessful with obtaining the information from my cousins. How do I research this event so that I am included as an heir?? Cousins play stupid when I request information.

Get a legal description of the land you think you own and either go to your local Texas Railroad Commission office or to the RRC website. From there you may be able to determine whether there is production on the land and contact the well operator. Caveat: the land may not have any wells on it but still be included in a producing unit and thus generating revenue. You may need to hire a lawyer or landman to figure our your status.
