protesting property taxes
i bought some property with a building on it last year. the property taxes were paid for that year. this year we are protesting taxes, appraisal went up couple years prior $10000.00 in error, but was not protested by owner at the time,now tax office says they can not decrease amount because no protest was made year increase was made. true?
this is a fish camp it is appraised as a residence. they will reclassify but not lower appraised value.

It is true, you must file a protest by the 31st of May of the year following the year your protestting. For example, if you wish to protest the appraised value for 2005, you must file the a protest no latter than May 31, 2006.
Re: protesting property taxes
You can still protest based on the appraisal being higher than the market value. You must have paid the taxes (on the value you agree on) in order to protest. Most likely, you will have to take it with the appeal board.
