Texas doesn't have a laughing heir statute. Typically, you keep searching back up the family tree until you find someone to take. Typically, there will be something that happens if too much time lapses. For example, a taxing authority or municipality will go after the property for taxes, or if the place becomes run down.

The property is escheated to the state. However, usually if you go up the geneaology line, a relative can usually be found.
