Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Real Estate ownership

I want to buy some lots in Texas from a gentleman in Oregon. The tax office shows him as owner. But what if he was married when he bought these, if we close the deal the unknown ex-wife would have a claim on my lots? His name is only name on deed.

You should have a title company research the title to ensure that the tax office has it correct (many times they don't). Also, you should get an affidavit from the seller, and a general warranty deed. This way, you have title insurance, plus the warranty to protect your investment.
