Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

real estate ownership

My father was married to my stepmother for 27 years in Texas. She owned her home when they married. She died without a will in 2003. MY father consulted an attorney and was told everything would go to him and the attorney filed an affidaivet of heirship. My father died 2 years later and he left a will leaving everything to me his only child. I probated the will and once again was told everything would go to me. I decided to sell the home and again I checked with the same attorney to make sure everything was in order. During title search I have been told the house belonged half to my father and half to stepmothers siblings. I now own only half. I have been taking care of unocuppied property for the past 2 years. Taxes, insurance, utilities, yardwork and cleanup of 3 storage areas in order to prepare for sell. The siblings do not want to compensate me for any of these expenses. They have not done one single thing. I have run my self into exhaustion caring for this property. Is their anything I can do ?

Re: real estate ownership

You may be able to ask a court to order that they compensate you and then put a lien on the property to ensure you are paid when the property is sold. But I would have to research this a bit to make sure a court would order compensation for you. You would also need a local attorney because litigation like this is easier for a local attorney to handle.
