Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Removing boyfriend from deed

My boyfriend helped me purchase a townhome two years ago. He payed the down-payment($4000) and has done some minor repair work. I have paid the mortgage note and all bills since then. We are splitting up and I am trying to finance the house in my name, but I must have a power-of-attorney from him. He said he will not sign one unless I pay him the money he put into the house.

I say he is not entitled to any since he has been living here for a year without contributing to help pay any of the mortgage or bills.

I am supposed to close on this next Tuesday. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Removing boyfriend from deed

Given that you have waited quite some time before closing, I would suggest you consider dealing with your boyfriend to get the power of attorney. The problem among other things is time. Unfortunately, you have waited until the 11th hour before seeking help.
